Leadership Style Test - what is it?
A Leadership Style Test is somewhat of a personality test that works in identifying specific leadership traits that an individual possess. These can be behaviors, attitudes and leadership approaches that a leader may use when working within a team setting.
There are many different leadership styles that can be searched on the internet. Goleman (2011) created their own set of leadership styles. These include:
- Authoritative (visionary)
- Coaching
- Affiliative
- Democratic
- Pacesetting
- Commanding
These styles have been utilized by many professionals in career counselling aspects. However, in this Leadership Style Test, we have utilized three important leadership styles that can give an overview of different styles. These are:
- Delegate leadership style
- Collaborative leadership style
- Authoritative leadership style
By gaining an insight into what specific leadership style an individual might lean towards, individuals may be able to work on strengths and weaknesses to accommodate their workplace. Acknowledgment of specific characteristics can support individuals into leadership training courses as well as identify good leaders.

What is the key difference between a manager and a leader?
When it comes to leadership and management within the workplace, these two jobs can have a differing effect on both the overall workplace and the employees. The main difference between a manager and a leader is that a manager may not be as involved in employees lives as the leader is.
A leader has little to do with a title, or a specific role the individual will play in a workplace. Often, individuals who display signs of leadership are displaying a positive way to create change and enhance the lives of other employees. Leaders often participate in workplace empowerment and have great decison making skills that benefit the team (Duggal, 2022). In short, a leader can be any individual within the team!
On the other hand, a manager is a title that some workplace employees can obtain and hold in the duration of their occupation. A manager often carries out tasks that are important to the company with the support of their specified teams. Managers should not be assumed leaders, they will need to go above their job title to showcase leadership skills that other individuals hold to be counted as a leader.
